Fit your backpack and discover the breathtaking landscapes of Ethiopia’s Simien Mountains. This UNESCO-listed national park is home to dramatic escarpments, deep valleys, unique wildlife and some of the most spectacular trekking routes in Africa. Over several days of trekking through high-altitude terrain and remote mountain scenery, you will reach Buahit Peak – the second highest summit in the Simien Mountains – while enjoying panoramic views and encounters with endemic species such as the Gelada baboon and Walia ibex. The Simien Mountains offer an unforgettable trekking experience through one of Ethiopia’s most impressive natural wonders.
Itinerary:
Please note this tour starts from the city of Gondar. International flight to Addis Abeba and a domestic flight from Addis to Gondar are not included.
Day 1. Gondar-Debark-Simien Lodge - Sankabar camp
Arrival at Gondar Airport or pick-up from the hotel in Gondar. Drive towards the Simien Mountains National Park (approx. 136 km). Before reaching Sankaber Camp, begin a scenic 3-hour trek from Chinkwanit viewpoint through dramatic mountain landscapes.Overnight at Sankaber Camp..
Day 2. Sankabar Camp - Geech Camp
Trek for approximately 5–6 hours towards Geech Camp via the impressive Jinbar Waterfall (approx. 500 m). In the late afternoon, hike to the nearby Kedadit viewpoint (3,750 m) to enjoy panoramic sunset views over the escarpments. Overnight at Geech Camp.
Day 3. Geech Camp - Chennek Camp
Trek for approximately 7–8 hours via Imet Gogo viewpoint (3,926 m), one of the most spectacular vantage points in the Simien Mountains National Park, and continue towards Enatey viewpoint (4,070 m). Overnight at Chennek Camp.
Day 4. Chennek – Buahit Peak – Chennek Camp
Hike towards Buahit Peak, the second highest summit in the Simien Mountains (approx. 3–4 hours). Enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding highlands before returning to Chennek Camp. Overnight at Chennek Camp.
Day 5. Chennek – Gondar
Drive back to Gondar (approx. 4 hours). In the afternoon, visit some of the city’s main historical landmarks, including:
Luggage transportation: During the trek your main luggage will be transported by mules to the next camping place. You only need a small rucksack to cover your needs for the day;
Visa: Citizens of most European countries can be obtain visa upon arrival at the airport. We recommend checking the latest requirements with the Ethiopian Embassy or Consulate in your country prior to travel.
Vaccination: You will need an International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever. Please, check with your doctor if you need additional vaccinations;
